Well, it’s officially been seven weeks since I began my journey to learn crypto, and that journey is finally coming to an end (at least for now).
I’ve learned so much over these past weeks, though I would definitely still label myself a crypto newbie. There is still so much to learn, and I’ve only just scratched the surface!
But how do I feel about the whole process? Did I meet all my goals? Would I approach it differently if I could go back and start it again? Would I do more or less of anything? Will I “hodl” my crypto? Have my perceptions of crypto evolved? What do I want to keep learning about?
Did I meet my goals?
When I first set out on my journey to learn crypto, I had three main goals:
- Familiarize myself with the culture surrounding crypto and learn what popular cryptocurrency terms mean.
- Create a crypto investing strategy that fits with my financial goals.
- Learn about the technology behind investing.
So, how did I do? After reading and writing about crypto for the past seven weeks, I’m definitely more familiar with the culture of the community. I also feel like I have a good grasp of the most common terms used in the crypto world.
I feel more confident navigating the crypto community and understanding things like the impact of major news stories on cryptocurrency and the crypto market.
I also created a crypto investing strategy for my financial goals and learned more about how to manage my portfolio.
During my journey, I invested in four different cryptos: Bitcoin, Solana, Avalanche, and Dogecoin. I’ve decided to hold all of these cryptos over the long term, and even plan to try out staking my Solana.
Lastly, I learned more about the technology behind investing in crypto. I opened my first account on the Coinbase exchange and tried out the Exodus wallet. I also learned more about how the technology offered by each company differs from the others, and how each one provides unique solutions to problems in the blockchain industry.
I even came to feel genuinely excited about some of the technological solutions I was reading about, which influenced my decision about which cryptos to invest in.
What I would do differently
Would I change anything? Ultimately, I don’t think there is anything I would change. I think my journey to learn crypto was structured in a great way where each week felt like the logical next step to take as I progressed.
I also think it covered the right entry-level topics that were good places to start for me as a total beginner.
I was also pushed to try new things that I probably wouldn’t have done if I were just learning about crypto on my own, such as moving my investments to a wallet, trying out staking, and purchasing a memecoin.
Will I “hodl”?
So, after everything I’ve learned, will I be holding my crypto? And have my initial thoughts about crypto changed at all?
Yes, I do plan to hold my investments! Despite the recent downwards trend in the crypto market and the volatility in general, I still plan to hold on to my crypto.
While it does make me nervous to see the market drop so much, I have confidence that it will recover and continue an upward trend in the long run.
Regarding my thoughts about cryptocurrency in general, I was on the skeptical side before I began my journey to learn more about it. However, I set out to approach everything with an open mind.
I don’t exactly know what the future of crypto will be, but I personally believe that it isn’t just a fad that will disappear.
I think crypto is here to stay, and while I still have doubts about whether it can ever come to replace fiat currency, I’m excited to see how it will be used in the future.
I think the technology offered by companies like Ava Labs is truly exciting and could have a huge impact on the ways blockchain technology is used in different industries.
What do I want to keep learning about?
When I started my journey to learn crypto, I was a complete newbie. Not only did I know nothing about crypto (much less invest in it), I didn’t even have any traditional stocks!
I’ve already learned so much, but just because this journey is ending, doesn’t mean I want to stop.
I want to continue learning about blockchain trends and the innovations being made by different tech companies in the crypto space. I also want to keep learning about asset-backed cryptos and what they have to offer.
Lastly, I’d like to explore more of the dApp world. After reading about dApps in my cryptocurrency research, I’d like to explore more about them and maybe even try some out.
I’d also like to test out different wallets in the future. Maybe I’ll switch over my Solana investments to Solflare or Phantom instead of Exodus.
Will you STAY IN TOUCH?
My journey to learn crypto might be ending, but I still want to stay in touch! I need your advice to help me decide what I should explore next. I’ll be in touch every few months to check in and see how your journeys are doing, too.
- Do you have thoughts on what I should keep learning about?
- Should I keep exploring asset-backed cryptocurrency?
- What about trying out some popular dApps (and if so, which ones)?
- Or maybe get into the metaverse?
