What jobs in the metaverse will be the most important to its growth? We know that the metaverse is here and that some of the largest tech companies are investing heavily in the space. What roles will be the most important, and what companies are hiring for those roles right now?
Infrastructure Engineer
If the metaverse is going to have some longevity, then it will need to have a solid infrastructure. OpenSea is one of the biggest NFT platforms in the world, so it’s only fitting that they are hiring for the metaverse right now. Specifically, they are looking for an infrastructure engineer.
The position pays between $150K and $200K a year. OpenSea emphasizes that candidates should fit into their company culture, which emphasizes trust, honest feedback, and growth.
Data Scientist
One thing is for sure: the metaverse will be creating a lot of data, and there is a massive need for people who can analyze that data. This is why data scientists are so fundamental to the metaverse.
Data scientists remain one of the most in-demand roles globally, and their pay continues to rise. Parcel, a virtual land platform, is currently hoping to hire a data scientist for the metaverse as soon as possible. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is also hiring a Director of Data Science.
Product Manager
If you’re familiar with the tech world, then you know that some of the most powerful companies and social media platforms rely on product managers. A product manager’s job is to identify customer needs, determine metrics for success, and help develop new innovative products that will generate revenue.
If you’re wondering about jobs in the metaverse that aren’t going anytime soon, a product manager should be high on that list. TogetherLabs, responsible for IMVU (the world’s largest avatar platform) is hiring for a senior product manager, asking for at least five years of experience. ClubRare, an NFT marketplace that has launched its own metaverse, is also hiring.
Senior Gameplay Engineer
One of the reasons organizations are excited about the metaverse is that there are already gamers who have experience playing games with metaverse-like qualities. Many experts believe that P2E gaming will help mainstream the concept of a “metaverse.”
Roblox is one of those games, and it’s clear that they are more than ready for the metaverse – they may even have a bit of a head start. The gaming platform is currently hiring a senior gameplay engineer, paying between $163,000 and $241,000.
Business Development Manager
If you want to capitalize on the metaverse, you will need to forge strategic partnerships. This is one reason why business development will be needed in the metaverse. A business development manager is responsible for finding new business opportunities and researching leads.
Microsoft recently announced that they were hiring a metaverse-related business development manager, although they are no longer accepting applications. Candidates with three years of business development experience and a passion for interactive entertainment were invited to apply. Soundcloud, an online audio platform with 175 million monthly listeners, is also hiring for a metaverse business development manager position.
Will these roles change?
One thing is for sure about the metaverse: we aren’t sure exactly how things will play out. As the metaverse changes, we may see more roles become in-demand while others become less relevant. If safety becomes an issue in the metaverse, for example, you can expect metaverse companies to begin hiring safety managers and HR managers to help manage these incidents.
Similar to the Internet, it can be difficult to predict how the metaverse will play a role in our lives. However, these five jobs will certainly be important to the metaverse, no matter how or why it continues to evolve.
