5 crypto inside jokes

If you’re like me, you don’t like being left on the outside of crypto inside jokes. Real talk tho, I don’t like being on the outside of any joke. I want all the jokes and I want them now! 

Thankfully for both of us, the cryptophere is replete with memes, phrases, and jargon that all have ironic, contextual, or simply lol-ish meanings. 

Some people might be satisfied with inferring what a joke or word means from context. Some might even think it’s enough to look it up in a crypto glossary. IMO, it’s better to just make a whole blog about them to save us all the trouble of googling it.

Hodl

If you haven’t heard the term “hodl” yet, you might think it’s just a typo. Well, it kind of is. It was originally a misspelling of “hold” in the title of a post on bitcointalk.org. A user named GameKyuubi went on a funny tirade about how bad a trader he is, so he’s just going to hodl. Of course it then became an ironic rallying cry for all the diamond hands. 

Whether it was actually a whiskey-fueled post or a classic troll move is for every man to decide for himself.

WAGMI

“We’re all gonna make it” (WAGMI) is a wholesome meme of camaraderie. It wasn’t always a crypto meme, though. It started back in 2015 in contrast with the less encouraging NGMI (not gonna make it). It was adopted by the crypto community in 2021 as a positive sentiment and a sense of community between hodlers during the bull market. 

Time will tell if it lasts through the possible bear market in our future, considering we’ve seen extreme fear lately.

Orange pill

Everything is a pill these days. You’d think it would be a dead meme by now when five years ago everything in politics was red pills, blue pills, white pills, and black pills. These days we’re even taking quantum pills and it’s truly gone beyond The Matrix. For those of us who have woken up out of the money cartel’s financial matrix and started stacking sats, we’re orange pilled and we’re not going back. 

I’m not sure if this one is really a crypto meme at this point or just a part of the lexicon.

Shiba Inu everything

As far as crypto inside jokes go, this one is not very inside. The Shiba Inu joke is so old that everyone knows it, even boomers, shocking as it may sound. At this point, Shiba’s got so many layers, they’d probably be harder to trace than the Duggar family tree. Of course the Shiba of all Shiba’s was the original Doge meme that inspired Dogecoin. Its success created an avalanche of Shiba Inu related shitcoins and memecoins and Elon even got himself a Shiba named Floki, which has also become a meme. 

If you ever wonder why half of all crypto is dog-related, it’s probably because of Doge.

Bogdanoff domps eet

The Bogdanoff twins meme has also been around for a while. In 2018, someone made a video clip showing Bogdandoff manipulating the crypto markets to “rek a wojak trader” who naively thinks he can get rich and WAGMI, but he has weak hands when Bogdanoff forces a market dump. 

The video has more than 4 million views and the crypto community mourned when the Bogdanoff twins passed away. 

Conclusion

There are some crypto memes and jokes that seem everlasting and you can plan to hodl them forever. Others are here and gone within a matter of days. But one thing is certain, memes and crypto inside jokes are part of the culture. 

It’s one of the main reasons why crypto is so fun—also the fact that WAGMI!
