There are already VC firms investing in the metaverse, although many of them are investing for different reasons. Some VC firms are investing in the metaverse because they believe it will be the future of gaming, while others are more interested in investing in Web 3.0 in general.
Here are some of the VC firms investing in the metaverse, how they emerged, and why they are investing in virtual worlds?
Hartmann Capital
Hartmann Capital is known as a crypto asset management fund, but it looks like they are now one of many VC firms investing in the metaverse. The VC firm recently announced a $30 million fund dedicated specifically to the metaverse.
The fund is currently backing companies like RedPillVR, a platform hoping to monetize virtual performance. It’s also backing Andromeda, a Cosmos protocol that hopes to offer new standards for NFTs. Hartmann Capital also makes the bold claim that the metaverse will be larger than the physical world’s economy within ten years.
Liberty City Ventures

Liberty City Ventures is an NYC-based VC firm founded in 2012. The firm’s main goal is to invest in innovative technology companies, so it’s no surprise it has turned its attention to the metaverse.
LCV recently led the fundraising for Animoca Brands, which raised $360 million at a valuation of over $5 billion. Animoca Brands is the parent company of Sandbox, one of the biggest metaverse players today.
Defiance Capital
DeFiance Capital is more known as a DeFi fund than a metaverse fund, hence the name. The VC firm describes itself as one of the most active crypto/Web 3.0 funds in Asia, and it believes “DeFi will eat traditional finance.”
What metaverse investments has DeFiance Capital made? First, it led a funding round in MixMob, a Solana-based metaverse gaming platform. Second, it has backed DropGG, an NFT minting platform that wants to merge the metaverse with the physical world. Third, it also made an investment in GuildFi, which hopes to create an interoperable metaverse.
Sure Valley Ventures

Sure Valley Ventures is another VC firm investing in the metaverse. This VC firm is a well-known seed investor in software companies, typically in the AI and cybersecurity sectors.
The London-based VC firm recently announced a $130 million fund focused on the metaverse and metaverse-related sectors.
VC firms investing in the metaverse: will it continue?
There’s no question about it: VC firms are very interested in the metaverse. Of course, many of these VC funds are focused on crypto/Web 3.0 in general, and they understand that virtual worlds will likely play a massive role in both.
With the rise of NFTs in 2021, there are likely hundreds of VC firms investing in the metaverse worldwide. It’s unclear whether that trend will continue, and much of it factors on whether metaverse mass adoption is successful.
