What companies building virtual worlds should you keep an eye on? By now, you should have some idea of what the metaverse is, and how it could disrupt various sectors and industries. We know about Facebook’s massive rebrand to Meta, but what other companies are building metaverses?

Here are four companies building virtual worlds, and why you should consider watching them in the near future.

HTC

There are many various tech companies interested in the metaverse, but HTC is taking things to the next level. The Taiwanese consumer electronics company is creating Viverse, a cross-platform open metaverse emphasizing interoperability and accessibility.

The company is also hard at work creating a metaverse phone, aimed at customers interested in augmented reality and virtual reality technologies.

Superworld

Superworld has created a metaverse that wants to be tied to the physical world, and it makes money by taking a 10% cut of any business done on any given virtual property. The Superworld metaverse formed a strategic partnership with Tokens.com recently, and the it also boasts an NFT salon where users can buy and sell NFTs

Nvidia

Nvidia is one of several companies building virtual worlds, but it also has the resources to create a metaverse platform itself. That’s probably why Nvidia is creating Omniverse, which has been marketed as the world’s first “simulation and collaboration platform.”

Nvidia wants to make it so developers, creators, and designers can connect tools and projects to collaborate in the metaverse easier. Its plan is different from the competition, as it hopes to eventually license Omniverse to corporate customers.

Gather

Some might try to dismiss Gather as a video chat platform, but it’s closer to a social gathering platform that allows for the creation of customized virtual spaces. In other words, it’s a metaverse platform.

Gather was founded in 2020, before “metaverse” was even considered a buzzword! Gather is different from other companies building virtual worlds because it actually offers a VR experience without headsets. The company hopes to make the metaverse as inclusive as possible.

What about other companies building virtual worlds?

It’s easy to see how there will be all sorts of companies interested in building virtual worlds, whether they are play-to-earn gaming companies, tech companies, or blockchain companies hoping to capitalize on the metaverse.

These four companies will certainly play some role in building virtual worlds, but it will be a long time before we know more about who will dominate the metaverse and why.
