Profile: crypto titan Brock Pierce

There are many people who try to describe Brock Pierce, but it can be difficult to pin down the well-known crypto entrepreneur. While some child actors who end up struggling later on in life, Brock Pierce is an example of a child actor who became quite successful.

Who is Brock Pierce? Some would say he’s a visionary, while others would emphasize that he’s an entrepreneur, first and foremost. He also describes himself as a philanthropist and a community leader. He’s also one of the most influential figures in the cryptocurrency sector.

A unique childhood: from child stat to gaming tycoon

Many people never experience their “big break” in acting – or any career – until later on in their life, but the opposite was true for Brock Pierce.

Born in Minnesota, he was already doing commercials as a toddler. He acted in blockbuster films like The Mighty Ducks and First Kid as a teenager. While some might expect a teenager to embrace the fame, Pierce decided that his path was different and decided to retire from acting at the age of 17.

Instead, Pierce knew that he wanted to become an entrepreneur. He joined two partners to form Digital Entertainment Network, which raised $88 million in venture capital. Digital Entertainment Network, or DEN, was a multimedia dot-com company. Unfortunately, the company’s IPO was canceled thanks to a sexual harassment scandal.

Pierce later founded Internet Gaming Entertainment in 2001, a company that is widely credited as a pioneer in the MMORPG currency-selling services industry. It’s interesting to note that Brock was thinking about “virtual currency” years before the rise of cryptocurrency.

Building new frontiers in the crypto world

If you’ve heard about Brock Pierce recently, there’s a good chance that it’s because he’s a crypto entrepreneur. Long before Bitcoin went “mainstream,” Pierce founded the venture capital firm Blockchain Capital with several partners in 2013. The VC firm made history by launching the first security token in the blockchain sector, BCAP. The fund has gone on to invest in established crypto companies like Coinbase and Ripple.

Pierce continued to be involved in the cryptocurrency space, as he’s a co-founder of both Tether and Block.one. For those who may be unaware, Block.one is the cryptocurrency startup that released the EOS.io software, a blockchain protocol based on the EOS token. The ICO for the EOS blockchain raised $4 billion, the largest in history.

What’s left to do when you’re already a crypto titan?

Well, Brock Pierce isn’t the type of person to take a break. While some might expect them to purchase an island and retire, that certainly isn’t the case for Pierce. He leads a movement that is hoping to build a crypto utopia in Puerto Rico, but he has recently set his ambitions even higher.

He ran for president of the United States in 2020, stating that he wanted to “upgrade America’s operating system,” and that neither candidate spoke to younger voters. He considered that campaign a “dry run” for another presidential campaign in 2024, and is now considering running for the U.S. Senate.

Whether or not he ends up in office, one thing is certain: Brock Pierce understands what it takes to succeed and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
